NORTHERN PROVINCE PLEADS FOR 13 MORE CONSTITUENCIES

.

Stakeholders in Northern Province have appealed to the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to consider allocating Thirteen (13) more constituencies to the province through the ongoing delimitation process.

The stakeholders, comprising traditional leaders, clergy, civil society organisations, members of the public and civic leaders, say creating new constituencies will promote development and ensure equal representation.

However, Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) Chairperson Mwangala Zaloumis says the Commission will only allocate 70 new constituencies across the country, as provided for in the Constitution, out of the 116 districts.

She has explained that districts benefiting from the process will only receive one additional constituency each.

Northern Province has 12 districts, all of which are seeking to benefit from the delimitation process through the creation of new constituencies.

The Commission has since concluded its provincial delimitation sittings in Northern province and is expected to proceed to Muchinga, Eastern and Western provinces.
