GRADE 12 PUPILS ARRESTED OVER THEFT OF 35 BAGS OF SCHOOL FEEDING MAIZE

Police in Lukulu District of Western Province have arrested an 18-year-old Grade 12 pupil of Lukulu Day School after he allegedly broke into a school storeroom and store maize designated for the school feeding programme.

Western Province Commissioner of Police Rae Hamoonga says 35 bags of maize weighing 50 kilograms each, valued at K17,500, were taken from Lukulu Primary School on March 14, 2026.

The suspect accessed the storeroom using keys that had passed through the hands of several teachers the previous evening.

The suspect was exposed after a teacher spotted him and an accomplice loading maize onto a motorbike near the school kitchen.

A third individual, Lubasi Kakanda aged 29, was nabbed after arriving with a wheelbarrow to collect additional bags and later led authorities to the other suspects.

Five bags valued at K2,500 were retrieved near the storeroom. Investigations are underway to recover the remaining 30 bags.
