Police in Ndola have discovered the decomposed body of a 24-year-old man who had been missing since January this year.
The remains of Mitch Mutale Mulenga were found in an unfinished building behind Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in the Hillcrest area.
Copperbelt Province Police Commanding Officer Mwala Yuyi confirmed the development.
Mr Yuyi said the body was discovered on March 12, 2026 around 15:30 hours after a report was made by Justin Nkandu aged 24 of Hillcrest Extension who informed police that he had discovered a decomposed body in an unfinished building behind the stadium.
Police officers rushed to the scene and found the body lying on the ground facing upwards in a skeletal state.
A black bag containing a National Registration Card, phone and school documents belonging to Mitch Mutale Mulenga was also found at the scene, helping authorities identify the remains.
Mr Yuyi explained that Mulenga had earlier been reported missing on January 27, 2026 by his stepmother Annie Mwelwa aged 51 of Hillcrest after he left home around 17:00 hours to go and deposit school fees at Zanaco Bank in Ndola town.
He added that police also found a rope tied to the roofing planks of the unfinished building which is suspected to have been used in the incident.
Mr Yuyi said due to the late hour when the body was discovered, the remains could not immediately be collected, and a postmortem examination will be conducted at the scene before burial.
The next of kin have since been informed and have confirmed the remains to be those of Mitch Mutale Mulenga.
