A mob in Tukwiza Compound of Choma District in Southern Province severely beat a suspected thief accused of stealing a phone from a woman around 21:00 hours as she was returning from errands in the area.
The suspected phone snatcher allegedly attempted to flee, but angry members of the community quickly pursued and apprehended him a short distance from the scene.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, between 21:00 and 21:30 hours, when the woman was reportedly returning home after buying a drink.
The suspect was assaulted by members of the public before being rescued by members of the Community Crime Prevention Unit operating in the area. He was later handed over to police officers at Shampande Police Post for further investigations.
Police are yet to release further details on the matter.
