JUDGMENT DAY FOR KITWE BUSINESSWOMAN IN DRUG CASE

.

The Lusaka Magistrates’ Court is today expected to deliver judgment in a case in which a 36-year-old Kitwe businesswoman is charged with trafficking in 25 pellets of cocaine weighing 500 grammes.

Kadijah Mungil has reportedly been on the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) watch list for some time.

She was arrested on May 14, 2024, after the suspected drugs were allegedly discovered hidden in a Toyota Mark X registration number AFB 3930, which she was driving.

The vehicle’s initial owner, referred to in court as Michael, testified that he sold the Mark X in October 2024 to an unknown buyer through a car dealership identified as Nathan and C Limited.

A Public Analyst from the Ministry of Health under the National Food and Drugs Laboratory, Sumbukeni Kowa, told the court that the 25 pellets recovered from the vehicle tested positive for cocaine.

Magistrate Peter Mungala also heard testimony from the arresting officer from the DEC and other witnesses.

Kadijah, who was found with a case to answer, opted to remain silent and did not call any witnesses in her defence.

If convicted, she faces up to 10 years imprisonment, a fine of up to K1 million, or both.
