ECZ DISMISSES CONSTITUENCY ALLOCATION CLAIMS

.

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has dismissed claims that thirty of the proposed constituencies have already been allocated to Southern Province before the conclusion of the delimitation exercise.

Speaking during the official opening of the Provincial Delimitation sittings in Choma, Southern Province, ECZ Chairperson Mwangala Zaloumis described the claims as entirely false, mischievous, and intended to mislead the public.

Ms. Zaloumis said the process remains at the consultative stage, with the Commission currently receiving and consolidating submissions from districts through ongoing provincial sittings.

She explained that once the provincial sittings are concluded, the Commission will analyse all submissions received from across the country with diligence and strict adherence to constitutional provisions.

Upon completion of the review, the Commission will determine the seventy additional constituencies to be established.

.

The names and boundaries of the new constituencies will be published in the Government Gazette by April 15, 2026, and will also be shared through print media and the Commission’s official social media platforms.

Ms. Zaloumis added that the newly established constituencies will take effect at the next dissolution of Parliament, in line with the Constitution.
