Minister of Information and Media, Cornelius Mweetwa, has dismissed as false and malicious claims circulating on social media suggesting that the President has resigned or is deceased.
Mr. Mweetwa says the Head of State has neither resigned nor passed away and remains firmly in office, executing his electoral mandate and steering the country’s economic recovery both nationally and within the region.
He describes the circulating reports, including a manipulated image depicting the President in a coffin, as inhumane, misleading, and deliberately intended to spread misinformation and disinformation.
The Minister has urged citizens not to treat everything shared on social media as truth, warning that some platforms have been hijacked by individuals pursuing selfish political interests.
He has further disclosed that two people have since been arrested in connection with the matter, with investigations ongoing to ensure all those involved are brought to book.
