Nchimunya Siakole, the Sinazongwe District Commissioner, has confirmed that two suspects who were earlier released by police in connection with a suspected murder case have since been re-arrested following a heavy riot that occurred this afternoon in Sinazongwe District.
The District Commissioner confirmed to Diamond News that police were instructed to immediately search for and re-arrest the suspects after an angry mob vowed not to stop rioting until the individuals were brought to book.
Earlier, the District Commissioner managed to calm the mob, which had stormed the police post, stoned property, and burnt tyres in protest over the alleged release of the suspects.
Police are yet to issue a detailed official statement regarding the matter.
More details later.
