KATETE–CHADIZA ROUTE CLOSED AFTER SEVERE ROAD DAMAGE

.

The dilapidated state of the Katete-Chadiza road has saddened the local people and the traveling public.

The poor state of the road is making it difficult for motorists, farmers, and businessmen to conduct their activities.

Local residents are reporting that vehicles are getting stranded while people are having difficulties accessing health facilities and education services for pupils.

One of the residents in Katete, Michael Phiri, says it has been difficult to travel due to continuous rains.

Katete, like many parts of Zambia, has been experiencing Cyclone Gezani, which has increased rainfall and activities.

.

And Raphael Banda says they feel neglected by the government, as the most critical road has been submitted but never worked on.

However, Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure Principal Public Relations Officer Francesca Phiri says the government has released over K7.7million working on different affected roads, fixing bridges, culverts, among many other challenges.

She says over 700 bridges have been reported to be affected countrywide, but the assessment is still underway.
