PRESIDENT HICHILEMA URGES SHIFT IN AFRICA’S DEVELOPMENT AGENDA

.

President Hakainde Hichilema has called on African leaders and citizens to take greater responsibility for the continent’s development, stressing the need to move beyond politics and dependence on external aid.

Addressing Zambians living in Ethiopia, President Hichilema said that while international support is appreciated, African countries must rely on their own resources and initiatives to drive progress.

The President encouraged Zambians abroad to contribute to Africa’s growth by engaging in initiatives that leverage local resources and strengthen linkages across the continent.

His remarks echoed his earlier speech at the launch of the Achieve Africa initiative on the sidelines of the AU Summit, which concluded today, 15th February 2026.

The program aims to bolster the continent’s health security by promoting localized research, development, and manufacturing of vaccines and biologics, helping Africa move away from a dependence mindset.
