
Cash-for-Work participants in Lusaka’s Kabanana West are demanding payment of their outstanding allowances after remaining unpaid for work conducted under the programme in October 2025.
The affected workers say the delayed payments have forced some of them into debt, negatively affecting their livelihoods.
On January 27, 2026, government announced the release of 2.8 million kwacha to clear the backlog under the Cash-for-Work programme in Lusaka Province.
Local Government and Rural Development Principal Public Relations Officer Liseli Kanyaga has acknowledged that some beneficiaries are still being owed but has assured that government will clear all outstanding dues before the next phase commences.
