22 OFFICERS DISMMISED IN 2025 AT ZRA ON CORRUPTION RELATED CASES

.

The Zambia Revenue Authority ZRA dismissed 22 officers in 2025 on corruption related cases to maintain the integrity of the institution.

ZRA Assistant Director Internal Affairs Chifayaki Kabambe was speaking at a Media Training of tax reporting in Petauke District of Eastern Province where he implored media practitioners to expose corruption related matters for improved tax collection.

Mr. Kabambe says Zambia Revenue Authority has declared a resolute stance against corruption, identifying it as a critical threat to national progress.

ZRA emphasizes that corruption within tax administration erodes public trust, reduces government revenue and ultimately stalls national development.

He says when corruption thrives, honest taxpayers lose confidence, compliance decreases, and the social contract between the state and its citizens is broken.

The authority highlights several key risks facing the tax system which includes bribery, inducements offered to officials to avoid correct tax payments, abuse of office for personal gain and sophisticated smuggling and tax fraud schemes that distort market competition.

He says such activities not only deprive the treasury of critical revenue but also unfairly disadvantage compliant businesses and increase the overall cost of doing business in Zambia.

The Media in Eastern Province has committed itself to enhance reporting on tax matters that help raise awareness and expose corruption.
