Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry Chipoka Mulenga has called on other manufacturers to follow suit and reduce the cost of goods, following recent price cuts by members of the Zambia Association of Manufacturers.
Speaking during a press briefing in Lusaka, the Minister encouraged both public and private sector businesses to respond positively, saying the move will help ease the cost of living for consumers.
About 30 local manufacturing companies have already lowered the prices of their products by up to 20 percent, in response to the country’s improving economic outlook.
The government recently appealed to businesses to pass on economic gains to consumers, following the appreciation of the kwacha and improved macroeconomic conditions.
