GHANA’S NEW PRESIDENT JOHN MAHAMA HEADS TO ZAMBIA

President of the Republic of Ghana John Mahama, will undertake a State Visit to Zambia from 4th to 6th February 2026 at the invitation of President Hakainde Hichilema.

According to a press statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the visit is a reciprocal engagement following President Hichilema’s State Visit to Ghana in July 2023 and builds on the outcomes of the Second Session of the Zambia–Ghana Joint Permanent Commission held in Lusaka in October 2025.

During the visit, the two Heads of State are expected to hold bilateral talks at State House aimed at providing strategic direction on priority areas of cooperation.

Discussions will focus on advancing the implementation of existing Memoranda of Understanding across various sectors to promote trade, investment, and private sector partnerships.

President Mahama is also scheduled to address the Parliament of Zambia on 5th February 2026, where he will engage legislators on shared democratic values between the two nations.

On 6th February, Presidents Hichilema and Mahama will attend the Zambia–Ghana Business Forum, which is intended to promote trade and investment opportunities, particularly within the framework of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

Priority areas of cooperation expected to be advanced during the visit include agriculture and food security, energy, mining value addition, waste management and the circular economy, trade and investment, commodities exchange systems, skills development and emerging technologies, including fintech.

The Ministry notes that Zambia and Ghana maintain long-standing cordial relations founded on Pan-African solidarity, shared values and a mutual commitment to advancing

Africa’s development agenda.
