United Party for National Development cadres in Kasama of Northern Province have threatened violence if the local authority goes ahead and gives grants to the approved cooperatives by the Ministry of local government under the Constituency Development Fund.
The UPND youths told Diamond news that all the shortlisted cooperatives are pro-Patriotic Front (PF).
The youths who were led by their Provincial and District Executive Members have vowed to disrupt operations at the council and provincial administration offices if the list of beneficiaries is not reviewed.
They allege that the selection process lacked transparency and that it was full of corruption.
Meanwhile, Kasama Municipal Council Assistant Public Relations Manager, Charity Chaiwila says, the selection of cooperatives starts at the ward level and the council comes way into the process.
