
The Zambia Police Service has formally arrested and charged Matero Member of Parliament Miles Sampa following claims that a fake polling station was opened during the recently concluded Chawama Parliamentary by-election in Lusaka.
In this matter, Mr. Sampa has been charged with the offence of Transmission of Unsolicited or Deceptive Communication, contrary to Section 19(1)(d) of the Cyber Crimes Act No. 4 of 2025.
It is alleged that on 15th January 2026, Mr. Sampa transmitted false information, claiming that a fake polling station had been opened along Ring Road in Lusaka.
Zambia Police Service Deputy Public Relations Officer Chipo Kaitisha says the suspect remains in police custody awaiting a court appearance.
According to police, Mr. Sampa’s arrest follows a complaint lodged on 19th January 2026 at Lusaka Central Police Station by Mr. Raphael Phiri, aged 53, a Corporate Affairs Officer at the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ), acting on behalf of the Commission.
