SENEGAL CROWNED AFCON CHAMPIONS AFTER 1-0 DEFEAT OVER MOROCCO

.

Senegal have clinched their second Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title following a dramatic 1–0 victory over hosts Morocco.

A heartbreaking stoppage-time strike denied the Atlas Lions their first AFCON crown in 50 years, crushing hopes of glory on home soil.

Morocco came agonizingly close to taking the lead in the 114th minute of extra time, but Ibrahim Díaz saw his Panenka penalty saved. Just four minutes later, Papa Guèye made the hosts pay, finding the back of the net to seal victory for the Teranga Lions.

The missed penalty and late goal proved a cruel double blow for Morocco, who had been hoping to add a second AFCON title to their history.

The dramatic twist silenced a passionate home crowd that had urged their team to the brink of continental glory.

Senegal captain Sadio Mané, playing in his final AFCON, was named Player of the Tournament, while Morocco’s Brahim Díaz and Yassine Bounou claimed the Golden Boot and Golden Glove awards, respectively.
