Women in Mapatizya Constituency of Southern Province have welcomed the opening of the Kamukkeza Clinic Maternity Annex, a development expected to greatly improve access to maternal health services in the area.
The maternity annex, constructed under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), is set to benefit more than 6,000 residents within the catchment area.
Residents say prior to the construction of the facility, expectant mothers were forced to walk long distances to Zimba District Hospital to access maternity services—a situation that often resulted in serious complications.
Zimba Town Council Secretary Collins Simoonga says the completion of the maternity annex demonstrates the local authority’s commitment to delivering quality infrastructure through the CDF.
The facility is equipped with a water reticulation system and an outdoor incinerator to ensure compliance with essential health standards.
The entire project costed K2,099,616.03 Constituency Development Fund.
