At least thirty households in Lusaka’s Kanyama compound, particularly around Kanyama Hospital and the Baptist Church area, have been affected by flooding following recent rainfall.
Lusaka City Council Public Relations Manager Chola Mwamba says the local authority has responded to the situation by deploying engineers through the Department of Engineering and Infrastructure Development to assess the affected areas.
Ms Mwamba explains that the engineering team is currently on the ground evaluating the extent and depth of the flooding in order to identify an effective and long-term solution.
She adds that although the area has an existing drainage system, it requires a comprehensive technical inspection to determine its capacity to adequately discharge floodwaters.
