The Lusaka Magistrate Court has acquitted Chiengi Member of Parliament Given Katuta of threatening violence charges involving Times of Zambia photojournalist Henry Chunza.
This is in a matter where Ms. Katuta was accused of threatening violence and insulting Mr. Chunza on July 21st, 2023 at Parliament, after she was suspended from the House.
Lusaka Magistrate Idah Phiri in her ruling observed that the prosecution failed to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt, noting that no witness testified the accused threatened to injure the complainant.
She encouraged police to bring cases only after thorough investigations and found Ms. Katuta not guilty, acquitting her of all charges.
