Shock in Choma as Secondary School Grade 11 Pupil Is Murdered

A Grade 11 pupil at Choma Secondary School has been gruesomely murdered by a man only identified by police as Kelvin.

According to a police report in Choma, the victim, identified as Cecilia of Macha Road Compound, was left at home with her 12-year-old brother after their mother went for work on 16 December 2025.

Southern Province Police Commissioner Moono Namalongo confirmed that the incident was reported by the victim’s 12-year-old younger brother, who told police that upon returning home from church around 12:30 hours, he found his sister murdered.

Mr Namalongo disclosed that when the boy arrived home, he found the house door locked, with the key lying on the ground. After opening the door, he discovered his sister lying naked on the floor in the sitting room. Police officers later followed the boy to the house and confirmed the report.

Police rushed to the crime scene and confirmed that the deceased’s body was found naked in the sitting room, with blood stains observed on the floor. A pounding stick with blood stains was found near the door, while a ladies’ pant suspected to belong to the deceased was discovered a few metres away from the body.

A physical inspection revealed a deep cut at the back of the head, bleeding from the nose, and fluid suspected to be semen on the genitalia. Samples were collected for forensic examination.

Meanwhile, police revealed that further inquiries established that a male person identified only as Kelvin, whose other details are unknown, was seen near the scene wearing a blue worksuit. It was later discovered that he had been admitted to Choma General Hospital after ingesting unknown chemicals in a suspected suicide attempt.

Police rushed to the hospital and confirmed that the suspect was admitted and wearing the described worksuit. A physical inspection revealed stains of suspected semen on his trousers. He is currently unable to talk, and his condition is critical. He has since been placed under police guard as the main suspect in the matter. His trousers have been collected and preserved for forensic analysis.

The body of the deceased has been deposited at Choma General Hospital mortuary, where it is awaiting postmortem examination.
