A consortium of labour unions led by the Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) and the Federation of Free Trade Unions of Zambia (FFTUZ) has announced overwhelming support for Constitution Amendment Bill No. 7.
The unions have described the Bill as timely, progressive, and reflective of the nation’s growing democratic maturity.
Speaking at State House during a courtesy call on President Hakainde Hichilema, ZCTU President Blake Mulala reiterated that extensive consultations were conducted with workers across the country, all of whom expressed support for the Bill.
He further urged parliamentarians to honour the mandate given to them by the workers who elected them by supporting Bill 7.
And President Hakainde Hichilema says Zambia’s peaceful political transitions and long-standing culture of dialogue must be safeguarded, adding that differences in opinion should build the nation rather than divide it.
