Government has officially launched the online passport application and payment system through the Zamportal on the Government Service Bus.
In a ministerial statement in parliament, Home Affairs and internal security Minister, Jack Mwiimbu says five passport services will be available online, among them application for a Zambian passport, Application for Democratic passport, Application for refugee travel documents, Application for a COMESA Laisser passer and Application for a travel document of identity which have been been tested and functional online.
He says the digital passport services will enable applicants to apply, receive feedback and track applications progress in real time with mobile money, online banking as securing payment options and that Visa payments are now available.
To access the services, applicants will be required to create a Zampass account and that the passport process will be completed in 14 days for Lusaka, Ndola and Livingstone and 21 days for other provincial capitals.
