Patriotic Front (PF) member Robert Chabinga has maintained that there is only one legitimate PF leadership, the one under his authority as Acting President.
Speaking at a media briefing in Lusaka, Mr. Chabinga confirmed that he has obtained a court order to close the PF Secretariat in Lusaka with immediate effect and until further notice.
He says that no party meetings shall take place anywhere in the country unless sanctioned by himself and PF Secretary General Morgan Ng’ona.
Mr. Chabinga has further declared that no PF convention will take place, describing the one being organized by rival members as illegal. He has directed all those who paid fees toward the purported convention to claim immediate refunds.
He has also criticized some PF members for discussing the planned convention before the burial of former President Edgar Lungu, calling the move insensitive and disrespectful.
Mr. Chabinga has accused certain members of using the death of the former Head of State for personal and financial gain.
Meanwhile, another PF faction led by Given Lubinda, who is also serving as Acting President, has continued preparations for a planned convention scheduled for this month, with several members already having paid their nomination fees.
Presidential aspirants who have filed their nominations under the Lubinda-led camp include Brian Mundubile, Greyford Monde, Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba, Emmanuel Mwamba, Miles Sampa, Mutotwe Kafwaya, Dr. Chitalu Chilufya, Dr. Chishimba Kambwili, and Goodward Mulubwa.
