TWO ARRESTED OVER CHIWEMPALA MARKET UNREST

.

Police in Chingola have arrested two suspects linked to the violent unrest that broke out at Chiwempala Market during President Hakainde Hichilema’s visit on Friday.

Zambia Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga named the suspects as Abraham Chilumbu, 24, of Chiwempala Township, and Abraham Sichone, 21, of Chingola South.

Mr. Hamoonga said the two were part of a mob that turned violent, burning a police vehicle and destroying property while the President addressed residents.

He said calm has since been restored, and patrols have been intensified to prevent further disturbances.

Mr. Hamoonga warned that police will deal firmly with anyone involved in acts of violence or vandalism, adding that maintaining peace is a collective responsibility.
