OVER 300,000 REGISTER IN PHASE TWO OF VOTER REGISTRATION

.

The Electoral Commission of Zambia- ECZ has recorded a provisional total of 343,921 registrations in the second phase of the ongoing mass voter registration exercise.

ECZ Chief Electoral Officer, Brown Kasaro, says the Commission has made significant progress, bringing the cumulative total from Phase One and Two to 259,488 new registrations nationwide. Of these, 141,825 are female and 117,663 are male voters.

Meanwhile, ECZ Chairperson Mwangala Zaloumis says the Commission has taken note of calls from stakeholders suggesting that the 30-day registration period is too short, but added that it is still too early in the process to make such a determination.

She emphasized that the Commission is closely monitoring the exercise and will make informed decisions based on data and operational realities.

Ms. Zaloumis further acknowledged concerns raised regarding inadequate sensitisation, equipment challenges, and accreditation processes, assuring the public that these issues have been addressed to ensure a smooth registration process.
