ZRA BEGINS IMPLEMENTATION OF 10% EXCISE DUTY ON GAMING AND BETTING

.

The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) has announced the commencement of the implementation of the 10 percent excise duty on gaming and betting activities, following the enactment of the 2025 supplementary budget.

In a notice issued to taxpayers, ZRA has stated that betting companies are now required to begin fulfilling their tax obligations for all transactions conducted in September.

According to the Authority, the excise duty will be charged at a rate of 10 percent on the total amount staked. ZRA has further emphasized that it is the responsibility of betting companies to account for and remit the tax to the Authority.

The statement also indicated that betting companies must manually compute the excise duty and make remittances using their Withholding Tax accounts under the Lumpsum Payment option.

ZRA has set the 15th of every month as the deadline for the payment of excise duty for the preceding month’s transactions.
