A 43-year-old man of Riverside Township in Lundazi District has died under unclear circumstances a day after he spent the K260 he won from a bonanza gaming machine on drinking a local beer.
The incident is allaged occurred on the morning of October 12, 2025.
Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba has confirmed the death of Undani Phiri, who returned home to inform his mother Witness Chabinga of his win on 11th October before leaving again to continue drinking.
Mr. Mweembu says the victim finally returned home at around 23:30 hours in a drunken state and retired to his bedroom.
The following morning at 06:00 hrs, his mother discovered him unconscious.
He was rushed to Mwase Zonal Health Center but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Police officers who inspected the body noted no physical injuries.
The body has been deposited at the Mwase health facility mortuary awaiting postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of his sudden and unnatural death.
