WOMAN SHOT IN SIAVONGA IDENTIFIES ONE OF HER ASSAILANTS

Police in Southern Province have confirmed that a woman who was shot and narrowly escaped death in Hanahuche Village, Siavonga District, has identified one of her assailants.

The victim, identified as Evelina Manyewa, named Chiinda Chatungwa of the Munyama area as one of the two attackers. According to police reports, Chatungwa was holding a firearm during the attack.

While asleep around 22:30 hours on 11th October 2025, Mrs. Manyewa was reportedly awakened by two male individuals who forcibly removed her mosquito net. When she hesitated to react, one of the assailants shot her in the face at close range.

Police say that after the shooting, both suspects fled the scene. The incident was reported to authorities by Specio Mulaziki, aged 31, a resident of Munyama and the area councillor for Munyama Ward, under Chief Simamba.

When police arrived at the scene, the victim was found conscious, lying in a pool of blood. She was able to recount the events and positively identify one of her attackers.

Mrs. Manyewa was rushed to Siavonga District Hospital, where she underwent surgery. Two pellets were successfully removed from her face, and her condition is currently reported as stable.

Meanwhile, a manhunt for the two suspects has been launched as investigations continue.
