CCMG TO DEPLOY 336 VOTER REGISTRATION OBSERVERS

.

The Christian Churches Monitoring Group- CCMG will deploy 336 observers to a national sample of 1,000 registration centers during the 2025 Mass Voter Registration exercise, scheduled from 13 October to 11 November 2025.

At a press briefing in Lusaka, CCMG Steering Committee Chairperson Bishop Andrew Mwenda says the observation aims to enhance credibility and integrity of the process, stressing that a credible register is key to electoral trust ahead of the 2026 General Elections. The exercise will run in six phases across all 156 constituencies.

CCMG has completed training of its observers but awaits the Electoral Commission of Zambia- ECZ accreditation, which was expected between 27 September and 11 October. Bishop Mwenda expressed concern that delays, and poor communication undermine transparency.

He urged ECZ to publish a clear national deployment plan, align district schedules, and provide details on staff, registration kits, and centers to ensure accountability. He also called for adequate staffing, backup kits, and accessibility for persons with disabilities through ramps and sign language support.

CCMG further appealed to ECZ to base any extensions of the registration period on data, strictly enforce the Electoral Code of Conduct, and intensify voter education with greater involvement from political parties, CSOs, and faith-based groups.
