The Zambia Men’s National Football Team has their sights set on finishing second in Group E of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers as they prepare to face Niger on Sunday, October 12.
This follows a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Tanzania on Wednesday night, sealed by a composed finish from striker Fashion Sakala.
Despite the win, the Chipolopolo remain out of contention for a direct World Cup spot, with only the four best-placed runners-up across all groups advancing to the CAF play-offs for the final qualification berth.
Head Coach Avram Grant has described the result as a welcome relief after a string of five winless matches.
He further emphasized that the qualifiers have been crucial in shaping the team’s readiness ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations scheduled for December.
Zambia is currently placed fourth with 9 points, following behind top placed Morocco, second placed Niger and Tanzania who stand third.
