MINISTER MWIIMBU ISSUES DIRECTIVES ON UNAUTHORISED TRAFFIC CHECKPOINTS, ANNOUNCES DIGITAL PASSPORT SYSTEM

.

Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security, Jack Mwiimbu has directed the Zambia Police Command to immediately clamp down on unauthorised traffic checkpoints, warning that officers found mounting them will face disciplinary action, including dismissal.

He says that only designated checkpoints will be allowed, with officers required to display their names and service numbers at all times to enhance accountability and restore public trust.

And the Minister has announced progress in the digitalisation of passport services, revealing that the Ministry, working with Smart Zambia Institute, has developed an online application and issuance system.

The new process is expected to drastically cut processing times, allow applications from abroad through Zambian missions, and introduce e-passports with enhanced biometric security features.
