HH APPOINTS TECHNICAL COMMITTEE TO DRAFT CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS

President Hakainde Hichilema has appointed a 25-member Technical Committee tasked with consulting the public and drafting proposed amendments to the Constitution of Zambia.

The committee will be chaired by retired Supreme Court Judge Christopher Sichimwa Mushabati, with Dr. Landilani Banda as Vice Chairperson and spokesperson.

Other members include academics, civil society leaders, religious figures, traditional leaders, and professionals drawn from diverse backgrounds.

According to State House, the appointments follow wide engagement and dialogue with stakeholders, including civil society, traditional leaders, and faith-based organizations.

The committee is supported by legal and drafting experts from the Ministry of Justice and the Zambia Law Development Commission, as well as ICT support from Smart Zambia and the Zambia Information and Communications Authority (ZICTA).

The Technical Committee is expected to design a programme of work and conduct broad-based consultations across the country.

President Hichilema has called on all citizens, political parties, civil society groups, and other stakeholders to participate constructively in the consultations, stressing that only a people-centered process can produce a Constitution that strengthens unity, inclusivity, and good governance.

The committee’s detailed roadmap and consultation programme will be announced in due course.

This is according to a statement made available by State House Chief Communication Specialist, Clayson Hamasaka.
