A fire has swept through 15 shops at Muchinshi Market in Chingola, reducing property worth thousands of kwacha to ashes.
The cause of the inferno is still under investigation, but it is highly suspected to have originated from illicit fuel dealers operating near the affected shops.
Chingola Member of Parliament, Chipoka Mulenga, who visited the scene to check on the damage, has sympathized with the affected shop owners.
The lawmaker has assured the shopowners of government support through the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU).
He has further donated assorted food items and pledged 100 pockets of cement, to be delivered by the weekend, to assist traders in rebuilding their shops.
