Zambia’s sprint star, Muzala Samukonga, has secured a place in the semifinals of the ongoing World Athletics Championships in Tokyo after clocking 44.56 seconds to finish third in Heat 2 of the men’s 400m preliminaries.
Samukonga crossed the line behind USA’s Christopher Bailey, who took first place, and Britain’s Reece Holder, who came in second.
The top three finishers in each heat earn automatic qualification for the semifinals, which are scheduled for Tuesday, September 16.
An additional six athletes with the fastest times across all heats will also advance.
