Twenty United Church of Zambia (UCZ) women have died in a road traffic accident while others are battling for their lives after a truck they were travelling in, lost control at Nsumbu Cliff and plunged into the valley.
UCZ Northern Presbytery Bishop Melbin Mulenga has disclosed that the accident happened last night when the women were returning from a weekend conference that was held at Munwa area.
The Bishop says the hired vehicle lost control and plunged into the valley, resulting into the death of 18 members on the spot while the other two die later.
He says several other women were injured and plans are being made to evacuate them to Mpulungu District hospital while bodies of the deceased have been deposited in Mporokoso District Hospital mortuary.
And Northern Province police commissioner Able Lungu during press time could not issue a comment as police are still conducting investigations.
