9-YEAR-OLD GIRL DIES FROM SUSPECTED CHOLERA

The Ministry of Health is investigating the death of a nine-year-old girl in Kanyama who exhibited symptoms of cholera before passing away.
Minister of Health Elijah Muchima during a press briefing has confirmed that the girl was from a family of three, including two individuals aged 54 and 32, both of whom tested positive for cholera.
The two patients were treated at the Kanyama Cholera Treatment Center and discharged on February 28, 2025.
Mr. Muchima explained that the family members had recently attended the funeral of a man who had died at home under unclear circumstances but had exhibited symptoms consistent with cholera.
The minister has assured the public that the Ministry of Health remains committed to supporting communities affected by the outbreak.
He has also urged everyone to maintain high hygiene standards and follow preventive measures.
In the past 24 hours, one new cholera case has been recorded in Chililabombwe, with no fatalities.
Cumulatively, the country has reported a total of 301 cholera cases, with nine deaths and 289 recoveries.
A total of 133,525 doses of oral cholera vaccines have been administered in Chililabombwe.
