An 87-year-old woman from Ndola on the Copperbelt, Mary Phiri, is calling for justice over her house in Ndola’s Mushili Township as her tenant has been refusing to vacate her property despite multiple court rulings in her favor.

In 2014, Ms. Phiri offered to sell the house to her tenant, Joseph Banda, for K55, 000. Mr. Banda paid an initial amount of K7, 000 in 2015 but failed to complete the payment.

Consequently, Ms. Phiri, who is based in Lusaka, offered a refund, which Mr. Banda refused, choosing instead to contest the matter in court where he was given a K13. 195 and an eviction notice.

Ms. Phiri successfully won the case, with judgments in her favor from the local, subordinate, and high courts.

However, despite these rulings, Mr. Banda continues to occupy the house, claiming ownership.

Ms. Phiri has expressed her frustration over the ongoing dispute with her family now seeking assistance to enforce the court’s decision and reclaim the property.

Diamond News visited the house for a comment but could not find Mr. Banda.
