Police in Ndola on the Copperbelt have recovered about 800 bags of mealie meal in Minsundu area destined for the Democratic Republic of Congo through the Sakania area.

The bags were recovered within the ZAFFICO plantation.

Six business men and women mostly from Chililabombwe District on the Copperbelt Province have been arrested in connection with the bags after being intercepted as they escorted a tipper truck carrying the consignment.

Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer, Peacewell Mweemba, says when the truck was intercepted by officers, the owners only declared 400 x 25kg bags of mealie meal.

He says the team was ordered to remain at a certain location but escaped while police called for back-up from the anti-robbery squad.

Mr. Mweemba further says police apprehended the suspects after receiving information of their whereabouts.

The suspects confirmed that there were about 800 x 25kg bags of Breakfast mealie meal.
