Eight out of the twelve bodies that went missing have so far been retrieved, a day after a boat carrying 32 people capsized on Lake Mweru in Nchelenge District of Luapula Province.

Four more bodies are still missing.

According to police the boat was heading towards Kashobwe area of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) from Kilwa Island when it was struck by waves.

Meanwhile, the Zambia Meteorological Department has urged water transport users to always check weather patterns before setting on a journey.

MET senior Meteorologist Kenneth Sinachikupo says the Department issues weather updates that must be followed and taken into consideration especially for people using transport to avoid loss of lives.
