Three people have died while twelve others are missing after a boat carrying 32 people capsized on Lake Mweru in Nchelenge District, Luapula Province in the Northern part of Zambia.


Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Danny Mwale has confirmed that the boat capsized early this morning due to strong winds as it was moving from Kilwa Island on the Zambian side to Kashobwe area in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.


Mr. Mwale says Police investigations indicate that most of the passengers were Congolese nationals.


He adds that 18 other people managed to swim to safety while the search and rescue operation for the missing persons is ongoing.
