
Government has disclosed that about six police officers sustained injuries when violent crowds attacked during President Hakainde Hichilema’s visit to Chingola, leading to the arrest of 27 individuals in connection with the incident.
Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security Jack Mwiimbu visited the affected Chingola market and condemned the violent acts, describing them as unacceptable and a threat to public safety.
Mr. Mwiimbu said security agencies remain on the ground to maintain peace and order in the area. He emphasized that anyone found breaking the law or destroying public property will face legal consequences, regardless of political affiliation.
Meanwhile, Copperbelt Province Minister Elisha Matambo met with marketeers who apologized for the incident and pledged to cooperate with authorities in rebuilding the market and preventing similar occurrences in the future.
