Two workers have died after being trapped in a stone crusher at Tianyu Stone Quarry in the Shimabala area of Chilanga District
The incident happened on March 13, 2026, around 12:30 hours when the two employees were reportedly trapped in a stone crusher while on duty.
According to police public relations officer Godfrey Chilabi, the workers were in the crusher area as stones were being offloaded from a tipper truck and were standing near the operating machinery.
He says the crusher continued running until another employee monitoring the conveyor belts noticed human remains on the belts.
The worker immediately
switched off the machine and alerted mine management.
Officers who rushed to the scene found human remains on the conveyor belts and sieves. The remains were later collected and taken to the University Teaching Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination.
The deceased have been identified as 38-year-old Kizito Gumbo and 37-year-old Joe Chikole Mwiinga, both of Shimabala area.
Police have since engaged the Mines Safety Department and other relevant authorities to conduct a joint investigation into the incident.
