15-YEAR-OLD FEMALE FOOTBALLER CHOMBA DIES DURING NATIONAL LEAGUE MATCH

A Green Buffaloes Women’s Football Club goalkeeper, Annita Chomba, has tragically died after collapsing during a ZPL Women’s National League match in Kabwe, shortly after a goal celebration.

The Zambian Premier League (ZPL) has confirmed that the incident occurred during a fixture between Locus Women FC and Kabwe Warriors Women’s FC, when the player reportedly rushed from the bench onto the pitch to celebrate a goal before collapsing.

Chomba, who was on loan to Locus Women Football Club, was immediately attended to by medical personnel and rushed to hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

In a statement, ZPL Chief Executive Officer Joseph Chimpampwe expressed condolences to the bereaved family and the club.

He further indicated that the league will engage relevant authorities and stakeholders to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
