The Animal Welfare Society in Lusaka has rescued 14 dogs from a house of a man who has since been charged with animal cruelty.
The Dogs’ owner, Jubodu Olukayonde, has been detained after police conducted a search at his residence and discovered dog carcasses kept in a room where 14 other dogs were held in locked cages at his back yard.
A source has disclosed that the man was using the carcasses to breed maggots to manufacture chicken feed.
If found guilty under Chapter 245 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, the man is liable to a six-month jail term or fine.
