11 DEAD, 18 INJURED IN A HORRIFIC NYIMBA RTA

A head-on collision between two vehicles on the Great East Road has left eleven people dead and eighteen others, including five children, battling for their lives in the hospital.

The fatal accident occurred today, October 29, 2025, at approximately 12:20 hours near the KK area, about 30 kilometers west of Nyimba town.

According to Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba the crash involved a Toyota Hilux, registration BAE 7261ZM and a Toyota Hiace minibus, registration AIE 8485ZM.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver of the Toyota Hilux, identified as Nelson Magolo of Lusaka, was improperly overtaking on a curve. While travelling from west to east with five passengers on board, he collided head-on with the oncoming Toyota Hiace.

The Hiace, which was carrying 24 passengers was travelling in the opposite direction.

The impact of the collision was severe, resulting in the immediate deaths of eleven individuals.

The victims include seven male and four female adults.

All the deceased have been transported to the Nyimba District Hospital Mortuary, where they await identification and post-mortem examinations.

Meanwhile, the eighteen surviving passengers sustained serious injuries and have been admitted to Nyimba District Hospital for treatment.

Among the injured are five juveniles two girls and three boys.

Both vehicles sustained extensive damage in the crash.

The Toyota Hilux had its front part crushed, while the Toyota Hiace was extensively damaged.
