.

A massive walkout looms in Zambia’s healthcare sector. 1007 volunteer doctors across the country plan to down tools on Friday, December 19, 2025.

Resident Doctors Association (RDAZ) President Paul Chibwe revealed the striking numbers: Lusaka Province dominates, with 182 doctors from University Teaching Hospital (UTH) alone.

“We will proceed because these figures show how vital volunteer doctors are to service delivery,” Dr. Chibwe said.

The RDAZ remains open to constructive dialogue, urging swift resolution for health workers and communities alike.

Health Minister’s Response
The Minister recently called on RDAZ to return to the table, emphasizing that volunteering is a personal choice, not formal employment.
